Netflix announces final season of ‘The Crown’ | Web series

The royal family is preparing to conclude the story of the British royal family.

On Monday, Netflix announced that the sixth and final season of the hit drama based on royal life will be released in two parts this fall. Part 1 begins on Thursday, November 16th, and Part 2 continues on Thursday, December 14th. This is the first time the series will have multiple installments.

The streamer also shared a new clip that previews what’s to come. The video featured the voices of Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton, and glimpses of a luxurious living room as a clock ticked eerily. The cast of The Crown changed every two seasons to reflect the aging of the characters over the decades, with the role of Queen Elizabeth passed between three actresses. In the teaser, the stars were photographed walking through a grand royal palace, capturing the passage of time.

“The crown is a symbol of osmosis. It’s not what you do, it’s who you are,” Foy said as footage of her character played on television. “Part of our natural self is always lost. We’ve all made sacrifices. It’s not a choice. It’s an obligation,” Colman said as well. The Sovereign she played in seasons 3 and 4.

The footage then cut to a costumed Stanton, silently holding hands and walking out onto a Buckingham Palace-like balcony to greet the cheering crowd. “But what about life, I put it aside? I don’t think I would — put it aside, but?” Stanton’s voice wondered.

The BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee made her debut as Queen Elizabeth II in Season 5 of The Crown, and will conclude her role in Season 6.

Netflix also revealed that season 6 will cover events from 1997 to 2005. Part 1 will see Elizabeth Debicki return as Princess Diana, Dominic West as the current King Charles, Jonathan Pryce reprising his role as Prince Philip, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Staunton. Starring as Queen Elizabeth. Salim Do and Khalid Abdallah also return as Mohamed Al-Fayed and Dodi Fayed, while Part 1 introduces Rufus Campa and Huflin Edwards as young Prince William and Prince Harry.

The first four episodes of Part 1 depict Diana and Dodi’s relationship before a fatal car accident in Paris in 1997.

PEOPLE previously confirmed that the shocking moment would be removed from The Crown. Four weeks later, Part 2 is in the queue and will be told in six episodes.

The King will imagine a young William returning to Eton after his mother’s death, as the monarchy navigates a tumultuous period in the public eye. Meanwhile, the aging Queen ponders the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla, and the future fate of Prince William and Duchess Kate.

The final cast change for The Crown will also hit the small screen in Part 2 of Season 6. Ed McVeigh plays Prince William, Luther Ford plays Prince Harry, while Meg Bellamy steals the spotlight as Kate.

Along with the premiere news, the streamer also released two striking visuals. The first poster shows Debicki in a bathing suit looking over her shoulder on Mohamed’s yacht, while the second spotlights Stanton walking alone into a bright beam of light. Season 5 was originally scheduled to be the show’s last, but Netflix announced that the series would be extended to season 6 in 2020.

“When we began discussing the storyline for series five, it quickly became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we needed to go back to our original plan and produce six seasons. ” creator Peter Morgan previously said in a statement.

The King will take his final bow on November 16th and December 14th.
