Malayalam actor Sathar passes away
The veteran actor will be laid to rest at 4 pm on Tuesday at the Padinjare Juma Masjid in Kodungalloor.
Malayalam actor Sathar, best known for his villainous roles, passed away on Tuesday morning. He was undergoing treatment since the past three months at Palliative Care Hospital in Aluva. Sathar was 67
Although Sathar made his silver screen debut with the 1975 film Bharyaye Avashyamundu, Anaavaranam (1976) was his first film as a lead actor. He went to star in over 300 movies including Tamil and Telugu films. He also bankrolled Malayalam movies Kampolam, Revenge and Black Mail.
The noted films throughout his lifetime include 22 Female Kottayam, Manglish, Ajnjana Theerangal, Neelathamara, Ee Nadu, Beena and so on. He has also acted in Telugu as well as Tamil films like Mayil and Soundaryame Varuga Varuga. He will be next seen in the yet-to-be-released film Avarum Ivarum.
Sathar also established himself as a character artiste through a slew of roles in Tamil films such as Mayil and Soundaryame Varuga Varuga. He also worked in Telugu films.
After being active in the industry for over three decades, Sathar took a small break from acting after the 2008 film Roudram, which had superstar Mammootty in the lead role. Following a four-year sabbatical, he made a comeback with 2012 Malayalam hit 22 Female Kottayam.
In 1979, Sathar married Malayalam actress Jayabharathi, with whom he had shared screen space in a slew of films, including Beena, Adimakachavadam and Sundarimaarude Swapnangal among more. However, the couple separated later. They have a son, Krish J Sathar. Actor Krish made his debut in acclaimed director Siddique’s Mohanlal-starrer Ladies and Gentleman.
Sathar’s funeral will be held today evening at Padinjare Juma Masjid in Kodungallur.
