Mālik is an Indian Malayalam-language crime drama film directed, written and edited by Mahesh Narayanan. The film is produced by Anto Joseph under the banner of Anto Joseph Film Company. It revolves around the life of Sulaiman Malik, spanning from his childhood to middle age, where he rises to prominence among the people living in the coastal regions, in the fight against the political corruption in the region. The film is based on real-life incidents about the increase in land acquisition cases, particularly in the coastal area.

Malik: Fahadh Faasil plays the titular character Sulaiman Malik, with Nimisha Sajayan and Joju George in prominent roles, while Vinay Forrt, Dileesh Pothan, and Indrans amongst others in supporting roles. Principal photography began on 3 September 2019 and completed on 18 January 2020, with major portions had been filmed across Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Lakshadweep. The music and film score is composed by Sushin Shyam, whilst cinematography is handled by Sanu John Varghese. The film’s theatrical release was postponed multiple times due to COVID-19 pandemic, and was later opted for a digital release through Amazon Prime Video on 15 July 2021.

Malik: Freddy, a juvenile criminal is given the task of eliminating Sulaiman, an aging patriarch, within a time period of 14 days. An infamous smuggler and local strongman, Sulaiman also happens to be Freddy’s paternal uncle. In their efforts to convince him, a past ridden with crime, death, and pain is recounted to Freddy by Sulaiman’s mother, his own parents David and Mary, and also finally by Sulaiman himself, each giving their own reasons for their past actions and why Sulaiman deserves the fate in store for him

Malik was launched with principal photography on 3 September 2019 in Kochi. The first schedule of the film was completed on 10 October 2019, and the second schedule subsequently began later on 24 October 2019. The cinematographer Sanu John Varghese and production designer Santhosh Raman recreated an entire coastal town in Kochi. During the second schedule, a huge part of the film has been shot at the sets of Kalamassery and the other part of the film has been shot in Thiruvananthapuram in a specially constructed set designed by the art department to replicate the period of 1980s. 

Since the scenes required a large amount of crowd and handling them in a real location is not easy, the team had recreated the design and set it in a fictional place, so they can shoot in a controlled environment. Hollywood stunt choreographer Lee Whittaker, has been announced as a part of the technical crew. The principal shooting of the film was completed on 18 January 2020 and post-production works began soon after its completion. The team took two months for visual effects and 95% of post-production works were completed before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in India. The team resumed the activities later on May 2020.
