Kajol and Prabhudeva to reunite after 27 years for pan-India film | Telugu Film News
Kajol and Prabhu Deva are all set to reunite on screen after almost three decades. The duo, who last worked together in the 1997 Tamil film Minsala Kanavu (Meruppu Karalu in Telugu), will star in an upcoming film marking the directorial debut of Telugu film director and scriptwriter Charan Tej Uppalapati. Like many of his fans, Uppalapati has been waiting for their reunion for a long time. “A large audience has been waiting for Prabhu and Kajol to work together again. I am extremely excited to bring this iconic duo back on screen in my film. I’m sure everyone in the Telugu speaking world is a huge fan of the classic song ‘Vennela Vennela’ which was hugely popular back in the day. I too am a huge fan of Kajol Ma’am and love her films like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘DDLJ’. Prabhu Deva is our Indian version of Michael Jackson and we all grew up watching his dance,” he said.
Touted to be an action film, for this pan-India project, Charan has assembled an ensemble cast featuring actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Samyuktha Menon, Aditya Seal, Jisshu Sengupta and Chhaya Kadam. “The film highlights how many children today are settled abroad, never having time to spend with their parents, sometimes not even returning for their last rites, and later going after their fortunes,” Charan said, adding, “Naseeruddin Shah has a pivotal role. Samyuktha Menon too has a powerful role which will be quite different from anything she has done so far in Telugu or Tamil films.”
Charan feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a talented cast in his first film, on such a grand scale. “I wanted my film to be epic, hence I have roped in actors from various industries. This will help the film reach a wider audience. Though I have some film experience, this is my debut, so it was a bit tough as the production structure in Bollywood is quite different. However, I think Bollywood now wants and appreciates unique scripts,” he said. “We recently wrapped up the first schedule of the film in Hyderabad and will be releasing it on video next week. It will be a visual treat with high-octane cinematography and acting,” he added.
