Barack Obama Reveals Favorite Movies and Books of 2023 – The Hollywood Reporter
It’s that time of year again, when Barack Obama annually shares his favorite movies, books, and music.
“As I usually do during this time of year, I wanted to share my favorite books, movies and music of 2023,” the former president wrote on social media, asking his followers to comment with their favorites as well.
In his typical fashion, Obama shared separate posts for each medium, beginning by listing his picks for the year’s best books, including Heaven and Earth Grocery Store (James McBride), Geek (Benjamin Labatut), Poverty of America (Matthew Desmond), How do you say Babel? (Safiya Sinclair), the bet (David Grann), Chip war (Chris Miller) and The vast wilderness (Lauren Grove).
His other top picks were Humanly perhaps (Sarah Bakewell), King: Life (Jonathan Egg), Water Charter (Abraham Verghese), The best minds (Jonathan Rosen), All sinners bleed (SA Cosby) Kingdom, power and glory (Tim Alberta), Some people need to be killed (Patricia Evangelista) and This is the other Eden (Paul Harding).
Next up were his favorite movies of the year, which included three from his and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground. “I’m biased given that these are produced by Higher Ground, but these are actually three of the best films I’ve seen this year,” he wrote in the post: Rustin, leave the world behind you And American Symphony.
The former president also acknowledged the historic strikes of the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA that occurred earlier this year. He wrote in the caption: “Writers and actors went on strike to demand better working conditions and protection. It has led to important changes that will transform the industry for the better.
