The trailer for Otter Love Story shows the couple’s purpose

Trailer for Billy and Molly: An Otter Love Story Bill sees Mel and his wife Susan rescuing a hungry wild otter swimming onto their dock in remote Scotland. The animal becomes a new member of their family and gives the couple a renewed purpose in life.

Charlie Hamilton is directing the rescue film from National Geographic and Silverback Films. The film follows Billy, Susan, and their loyal sheepdog, Jade, as they slowly nurse a desperate female otter named Molly back to health.

“Molly came into our lives when we needed her most, and opened our eyes again,” Susan Mell says at one point in the trailer as she and Billy are shown playing with and feeding their beloved and unexpected friend. “I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing. But I’m all she has,” Billy adds as the two-minute video reveals how he and Molly’s devotion to each other saved them both.

Filmed in 4K, the trailer also reveals the wild and stunning nature of the Shetland Islands as diverse marine life and migratory birds come to feed along its rugged shores. Scottish composer Erland Cooper’s soaring score in the documentary hints at the end of the trailer that Billy and Molly must part ways as the noble otter is seen swimming freely once again in the wild.
