Barbie and Oppenheimer Among 2023 AFI Film & Television Award Winners – The Hollywood Reporter
The American Film Institute has revealed its picks for the 10 best movies and 10 best TV shows of the year.
The AFI Film Awards, which celebrate both Hollywood and independent films, go to American Fantasy, Barbie, Holders, Moonflower Killers, Maestro, May/December, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things And Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse.
On the television front, the 2023 AFI Awards go to Abbott Elementary, Bear, Beef, Jury Duty, The Last of Us, The Morning Show, Only Murders on the Block, Poker Face, Impound Dogs And Succession.
The honorees will be honored at a private reception on January 12, 2024 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Each year, the intimate, non-competitive AFI Awards ceremony draws the biggest creative and industry names in Hollywood to salute the year’s best performances from the film and television industry.
“As our nation and our world continue to navigate challenging times, AFI is honored to shine the right light on these works of art that lift us up and, ultimately, lead us to compassion,” said Bob Gazzaley, AFI President and CEO. Statement on Thursday.
“Doing so without competition is a hallmark of AFI, and we are proud to bring this community of artists together – as a team – to celebrate their extraordinary contributions to our time,” Ghazal added.
The AFI Awards, selected by a jury consisting of AFI trustees, artists, critics, and scholars, honor creative teams as a whole by honoring those in front of and behind the camera.
