NFL to bring back TV broadcasts in September, Nielsen says – Deadline

That season has arrived again this year. Soccer is back and the broadcast networks are rooting for you.
Overall broadcast television viewership rose nearly 13% in September, according to Nielsen’s latest State of Television report, The Gauge. The growth rate was even higher for the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, at around 30%. This marks her second consecutive month of increase in broadcast usage. In total, broadcast accounted for 23% of his TV usage in September.
This is because both the NFL and college football seasons have started and both broadcast and cable have ramped up significantly. Nielsen reports that in the broadcast sports genre, viewership has increased by a whopping 360% since the start of both football seasons (compared to his 222% increase in the same period last year).
Unsurprisingly, cable TV is also feeling the impact of sports viewership, although to a lesser extent, with a 25.5% month-over-month increase. ESPN aired the top 11 cable TV broadcasts this month, 10 of which were soccer-related. He placed 9th at the US Open.
Overall, cable viewing actually fell slightly, down about 1.1%. The share of TV usage decreased slightly, amounting to approximately 29.8%.
Cable also felt a positive impact from sports viewership, with sports genres up 25.5% in September. ESPN aired this month’s top 11 cable TV broadcasts. 10 of the 11 were soccer-related, and he finished 9th at the U.S. Open. Overall, cable viewing in September was down slightly (-1.1%) from his August, with this category decreasing by 0.4 share points and accounting for his 29.8% of TV usage.
Streaming viewership declined again in September, marking the second consecutive month of declines in this category. But despite losing a bit of share, streaming still accounts for 37.5% of his total TV usage, the most of his three categories.
