Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kufiya’ is now available on Netflix. In an interview with The Indian Express, director Vishal said that he started working on the film in 2016 and wanted late actor Irrfan Khan to play the lead role. He also revealed the difficulty of raising money for a film starring “any female star”, even someone as prolific as Taboo, adding that everyone, like director Rohit Shetty, has a huge budget. When asked about returning to films after five years with ‘Kufiya’, which is an adaptation of Amar Bhushan’s novel ‘Escape to Nowhere’, Vishal said, “It wasn’t my intention that it took five years… I started working on keffiyeh in 2019,” he said. “The first draft was completed in 2016, and the first draft was completed in 2018. At that time, I had a male protagonist. I wanted to work with Irrfan, who was unwell. After he passed away, I decided to work with him.
