Tiger 3 has opted for an unusual Sunday release to coincide with Laxmi Puja. According to early estimates posted by industry tracker Saknilk, the film is expected to gross Rs 400 crore on its opening day. The film, which was released in 5,500 screens in India, recorded a morning occupancy rate of 36.55 percent in Hindi.
This number is far from the opening day records made by Shah Rukh Khan’s two films earlier this year, which grossed Rs 57 million for Pattern, followed by Rs 75 million pan-India for Jawan. This number is huge for a Lakshmi Puja day. It is not a box office friendly day as people get busy with festivals from evening onwards.

If Tiger 3 earns Rs 400 crore as per early trends, it will be the biggest Diwali day in the history of Bollywood. The current records for Diwali day totals are Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan (Rs 12.60 crore on the first day) and Ajay Devgn’s Sardar’s Son (Rs 9.30 crore on the first day) with a combined Rs 220 crore. Two movies that collided in 2012.
Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 currently holds the record for highest Diwali collection by a single film. The superhero film grossed Rs 150 crore on its third day of release, Diwali.
Tiger 3 is expected to hit the big time from Monday and the film will finally take advantage of the long Diwali holiday period. The Salman Khan action actor is hoping to break the lifetime record for the top Bollywood film of the year — ‘Jawan’ which grossed Rs 640 crore pan-India; It was followed by ‘Pattern’ which grossed Rs.
