Jeffrey Wright and Denzel Washington star in Spike Lee’s film High and Low

After being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, Jeffrey Wright is preparing his next film.

Apple Original Films and A24 announced Tuesday that Wright will join Denzel Washington in director Spike Lee’s upcoming film, High and low. A24 will give the film a theatrical release before launching globally for Apple TV+. The release date has not been announced yet.

The thriller, which begins production this month, is an English reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller. High and low. The 1963 Japanese film tells the story of a shoe executive who is in the middle of a complex corporate takeover when his plans are derailed by the accidental kidnapping and ransom demand of his driver’s son, rather than his own.

The film adaptation was developed and produced by A24, Escape Artists and Mandalay Pictures, and written by Alan Fox and Lee.

High and low It marks the second collaboration between Apple Original Films and Washington following the popular film The tragedy of Macbethalso from A24, which earned Washington his 10th Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
