World Space Week 2023: World Space Week is held every year from October 4th to 10th and is the world’s largest ‘space-themed’ event. This international festival focuses on the fundamental role that space science and technology plays in improving human well-being. Space agencies, businesses, educational institutions, planetariums, museums, and astronomy enthusiasts host numerous space-related activities throughout the week. These activities aim to educate both students and the general public to understand the contribution of space exploration to society.

The theme of World Space Week 2023 is “Space and Entrepreneurship” and aims to spark discussion and raise awareness about the growing commercial space sector and its impact on advances in space science and technology.

History of World Space Week

The World Space Week Association (WSWA) traces its roots back to 1980 when it began organizing Space Week, a celebration commemorating the first moon landing held from July 16 to 24 each year. The first commemoration was held in Houston and hosted. Ernie Hije, Troy Welch, David Koch, Dennis Stone. In 1981, we established the Space Week National Headquarters to expand this celebration across the United States.

As the years passed, Space Week gained momentum and by 1999 had spread to more than 15 countries. In the same year, the United Nations General Assembly designated World Space Week to be celebrated from October 4 to 10 every year, making it an important part of World Space Week. The first worldwide celebration was held in 2000.

World Space Week deepens people’s understanding of space and provides a platform for people around the world to expand their knowledge of the benefits of space exploration.
