Rebecca Ferguson Joins Star-Studded Cast of The Magic Faraway Tree
Rebecca Ferguson, known for her roles in *Dune* and *Mission: Impossible*, is set to star in *The Magic Faraway Tree*, an upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s beloved children’s classic. She will be joined by a stellar cast including Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Nicola Coughlan, Jessica Gunning, and Jennifer Saunders.
Ferguson takes on the role of Dame Snap, the headmistress of the school and one of Blyton’s most notorious villains. The film is currently in production, brought to life by Neal Street Productions, Elysian Film Group, and Ashland Hill Media Finance.
Based on Blyton’s *The Magic Faraway Tree* series, the story follows Polly (played by Foy) and Tim Thompson (Garfield), along with their children Beth, Joe, and Fran, who relocate to the remote English countryside. There, the children discover a magical tree with strange and fascinating inhabitants.
Nicola Coughlan will portray the forest fairy Silky, while Nonso Anozie takes on the role of Moonface, the leader of the tree dwellers who can transport visitors to faraway lands. Jessica Gunning will play Mrs. Washalot, Dustin Demery-Burns will appear as the character Man of Destiny, and Jennifer Saunders will play the strict grandmother of the children.
Director Ben Gregor praised Ferguson, saying, “Rebecca has a commanding screen presence, is one of the finest actresses of her generation, and will be an exciting addition to our film.” The screenplay for *The Magic Faraway Tree* is written by Simon Farnaby, known for *Wonka* and *Paddington 2*.
Ferguson’s role in *The Magic Faraway Tree* adds to her impressive filmography, which also includes the upcoming *Peaky Blinders* movie with Cillian Murphy and *The Electric State* alongside Chris Pratt. Ashland Hill Media Finance is fully funding the film, with Palisades Park Pictures handling international sales and CAA Media Finance managing U.S. rights.
