Producers StudioCanal and Monumental Pictures have dropped the first trailer of the much-awaited film Back to blackthe upcoming biographical musical film about the late Amy Winehouse.
Rising British actress Marissa Abella (industryHe plays the role of Winehouse in the film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere, boy, 50 shades of grey). Black Bows returns to the UK and Ireland on April 12. Focus Features will release the film in the US on May 10.
written by Nowhere, boy And He controls Produced with the full support of The Amy Winehouse Estate, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Publishing, the film, written by Matt Greenhalgh, will feature many of Winehouse’s hits. In addition to the title track, the multi-Grammy Award-winning British soul band charted with songs like “Rehab,” “Valerie” and “Love is a Losing Game.” During her short career, she sold more than 30 million records worldwide. While she enjoyed stunning success, Winehouse struggled with addiction and intrusive media attention. She died on July 23, 2011, at the age of 27, of an accidental alcohol overdose.
Back to black The film focuses on Winehouse’s early years, living in London, her rise to fame, and the recording of her groundbreaking studio album, Back to Black.
Starring alongside Marissa Abella in the film are Jack O’Connell as Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Eddie Marsan and Juliette Cowan as Amy’s parents Mitch and Janis Winehouse, and Lesley Manville as Amy’s grandmother Cynthia.
Alison Owen (Me before you, Elizabeth) And Debra Hayward (Les Misérables, Bridget Jones’s Baby) They are producing Back to Black for Monumental Pictures alongside Nicky Kentish-Barnes (About time, about a boy). Sam Taylor-Johnson is executive producing alongside Ron Halpern and Studioncanal Senior Vice President of Global Production Joe Naftalin.
