“Street 2” Breaks Records with Massive Box Office Opening
Street 2, the latest horror comedy featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has taken the box office by storm, marking the biggest Bollywood opening of the year. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film has set new benchmarks, becoming the highest-grossing film for both its stars and the most successful opening for a Bollywood horror film.
On its opening day, August 15, Street 2 achieved an impressive gross of ₹518 crore, surpassing all previous records and making it Bollywood’s biggest opening of 2024. The film outperformed other major releases, including Akshay Kumar’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and John Abraham’s Vedas. The success was further fueled by the Independence Day holiday, driving substantial box office returns.
The film’s advance sales were equally remarkable, with 824,483 tickets sold for both standalone and multiplex screenings. This figure places Street 2 among the highest-grossing films of all time, trailing only behind Baahubali 2 (Hindi) with 650,000 tickets, Jawan with 557,000 tickets, and others.
In terms of opening-day gross, Street 2 ranks fifth among Bollywood’s biggest openings, behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (₹655 crore), Pathaan (₹550 crore), Animal (₹547.5 crore), and KGF Chapter 2 (₹539.5 crore). It edges out other notable blockbusters from 2019, such as War (₹516 crore).
The film has surpassed the opening-day earnings of several other major Bollywood hits, including Happy New Year (₹426.2 crore), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (₹435 crore), Sultan (₹365 crore), and Sanju (₹347.5 crore).
Following its record-breaking opening, Street 2 continued to perform strongly at the box office, earning ₹314 crore on its second day, ₹438.5 crore on its third day, and approximately ₹550 crore on its fourth day. The film’s total box office collection in India has now reached an astounding ₹1,955 crore.
