UFC legend Conor McGregor fears he will have “a few enemies” in Hollywood before his film debut
Conor McGregor is worried that he upsets people when he turns down acting roles.
The former two-division UFC champion is set to make his film debut alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in a remake of the 1989 cult classic Road House – which originally starred Patrick Swayze.
The reboot will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video starting March 21.
The film revolves around former UFC fighter Elwood Dalton (Gyllenhaal), who gets a job as a caretaker in a Florida Keys house, only to discover that paradise is not what it seems.
McGregor plays Knox, Dalton’s nemesis, in the film which he claims made him the “highest-paid debut actor ever” after rejecting advances from Hollywood for years.
The 35-year-old recently spoke about his past forays into the film industry and suggested it may have left him with a few powerful enemies.

“I’ve turned down some good roles in my time climbing,” McGregor told Total Film.
“I had directors show up at fight camp, really beautiful directors doing really classy films…and over and over again, they would come to me, and I would always turn them down.
“I’m going to leave people high and dry a little bit. I probably have a few enemies that I don’t really know because I said, ‘I might do this.'”
After breaking his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021, McGregor’s memoirs opened up and he was finally able to film his first scenes as an actor.
The Irishman may have been wondering why it took him so long to transition into cinema, as he claims he loved every second of the film-making process.
McGregor added: “I was in awe of the whole thing, to be honest with you, the whole process.
“I didn’t know how I was going to handle it. I didn’t know if I was going to like it, to be honest. I’m a fighting guy – this is my bread and butter. This is where I come from. . . .
“I’m not an actor, but I’m in show business. That’s how I felt about it. I felt like that. I enjoyed every second of it.”
McGregor was hoping to make his eagerly anticipated return and compete in multiple fights before the release date of the Road House remake.
However, his time out of action is approaching three years, although he has been booked to face lightweight contender Michael Chandler since February 2023.
“Mystic Mac” is increasingly impatient with UFC CEO Dana White, who hopes to see his biggest star return to the Octagon before 2024 is out.
McGregor may choose to pursue other opportunities in boxing or acting if delays in his return to mixed martial arts continue.
