Moana sets sail for India again: Will Bollywood join Moana 2’s voyage? Here’s what we know
Get ready to set sail with Moana once again! Disney’s popular animated film is returning to Indian shores with its much-awaited sequel, Moana 2. Fans are already buzzing with excitement, with lingering memories of Bappi Lahiri’s iconic voice work in the Hindi version of the first film. But the big question remains: Will Moana 2 embrace the magic of Bollywood once again?
For the unversed, Bappi Lahiri’s energetic rendition of ‘Shona’, who played the giant crab Tamatoa, was a highlight for many Indian viewers. The late singer added her personal touch to the magical performance that had everyone talking. It added a cultural flavor. With such successful precedents, speculation is rife as to whether Disney will bring new Bollywood touches to Moana 2.
Although there is no official confirmation yet, the possibility certainly fires the imagination. Will we also see the legendary singer lend his voice to a new character? Perhaps a famous composer will create an original song with a unique Indian feel? Or maybe even a Bollywood star will join the cast in a unique cameo?
The possibilities are endless, and fans are already throwing their favorites into the mix. Needless to say, Moana has struck a chord with Indian audiences. Moana 2 could further bridge the gap between Disney animation and the vibrant world of Indian cinema.
Moana 2 is directed by Dave Derrick Jr., with the musical adventure film’s music supervised by Grammy Award winners Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow. The next installment centers on Moana, who suddenly receives a message from her “wayfinding ancestors” and embarks on her new “vast new voyage to Maui.” This time, Moana and Maui will be accompanied by sailors. “Moana 2” is scheduled to be released in theaters in India on November 27, 2024.
