Siddharth Anand says netizens are comparing ‘The Fighter’ to Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun’
Director Siddharth Anand is releasing ‘Fighter’ on the one-year anniversary of the release of his previous film ‘Pathaan’ and the trailer suggests that the film is full of action and patriotic fervour. The film is loosely based on the Balakot airstrike after the 2019 Pulwama attack. Many have compared The Fighter to the Top Gun series starring Tom Cruise due to the amount of aerial shots the director used, but Hrithik disagreed. “If you look, they (the two movies) are not the same at all. In Top Gun, he’s a rebel without a cause. That’s just his character,” he added. Anand flattered that the similarities between the two films end with the aircraft. “When we make movies in this country on a fraction of the budget possible, we take that as a compliment because that’s what we make.” “It (‘Fighter’) has nothing to do with ‘Top Gun,’ but it’s an airplane that appears in both movies…the similarities are in those airplanes,” he added.
