good to have you back Why do you look so little?
Only my friend Subhash could ask such a question. Unbelievable I love you Subhash. You don’t see me enough because you don’t invite me to Patna for Litikhokha anymore. But jokes aside, I guess the idea now is to pick and choose the work I like. I finished Indian Police, I finished shooting a fantastic murder mystery called Gray with Nithya Menon. This year I’m getting Masti 4, which is sort of a reunion with our crazies. Now I am doing an action film with Tiger Shroff which has started. This is interesting. There is historical what I do other than that. And at the end of the year I start a new film with Madhu Mantena.
Is that a lot of work for one actor?
It’s a lot of fun to do a lot of things. But here, I took a little break to evaluate, build my business and focus on many other things. And now that everything is settled, things sorted out are going great by the grace of God, I’m back in front of the camera and lying in the light of the cinema. Enjoying the white light of the cinema. I try to make it as dramatic as your questions.
What made Rohit Shetty choose the project?
I don’t think I chose it, I think it chose me. When Rohit bhai called me, the first thing he told me was Vikram Bakshi. I’ve been writing this script for three years and I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you the day I started writing this character. This was a great compliment to me as we both have mutual respect and love for the past twenty years.
What was it like filming the exclusive action sequences?
The action part, while looking fantastic on screen, was difficult to shoot as Rohit bhai wanted it completely raw. He wanted it completely real. I kept teasing him by saying that every time he does his action sequences, it’s like I’m giving a Rohit Shetty massage. Because he’s banging and banging all those walls, falling on the floor and breaking furniture. Yeah, I haven’t done that in a while. But it was a challenge. It was fun too.
How different is filming a TV series compared to a feature film?
Yes, I believe Subhash, the new young generation called him OG, get used to it, change your vocabulary now. This is called vocab. I learn a lot of new words with all the young YouTube bloggers and influencers who talk to me. But jokes aside, it feels great to be a pioneer or whatever. I think it took a leap of faith for Inside Edge when a dozen well-wishers called and said why are you doing this when you’re a lead actor? What is this OTT story? Why are you doing something that isn’t even TV? What is Amazon Prime Video? And today it paid off. It brought us our first Emmy nomination. He personally won me many awards for my role in Vikrantaavan.
Do you seem to be enjoying your marriage on an OTT platform?
I’ve enjoyed this journey watching not only the content grow, but the platform as well. The relationship with the people behind the platform was solid. Three seasons with them, this is the fourth, which is the Indian Police Force. This has only strengthened this bond and I look forward to many more with them.
What do you think about the changes in the film industry in recent years?
I think the industry has been through a lot. It has undergone a tremendous transformation, especially in the post-COVID era. The revival has been pretty strong, but it’s also becoming overwhelmingly clear that people are watching the movie more than the star. I think there was an era when whatever it was, when a star came out with a film that was getting smaller and smaller in the south, much less in Hindi, you would have a certain amount of people buying. Tickets to see the first day of the show on the first weekend. Now we’re seeing even big budget movies with very well-established A-listers, we’re seeing the numbers say that sometimes there’s just no opening. People don’t even come to the theater to try out.
What was it like filming Rohit Shetty? What was your preparation for Indian Police?
I think it’s an advantage to work with Dr. Rohit Shetty and the doctor because I think he’s a police doctor. Keep teasing him about it. But the advantage of working with Rohit is that he is so well embedded in the ecosystem, the world, the marine world, that everything, all the little details that you would normally have to do your homework as an actor, have already been done for you. All you have to do is perceive, transfer that information to the subconscious, and then focus on contextually evoking the right emotion for the scene. So it creates a laser focus and you’re able to do more body work, you’re able to do a lot more subtle work with your expressions, your craft, because your focus isn’t on anything else, your laser focus. only on performance. So that really helped and that was a big advantage of working with him.
Do you seem to enjoy being part of it?
Yes, being a part of Copverse and Copverse is the difference, because I feel when I watch Simmba, Singham, Soriyavanshi, it’s a world that has a lot more imagination, brilliance, more films. And it was amazing to see how the same Copverse was adapted for OTT, making it so real, raw, gritty and giving a completely different level of performance.
The police have a vague image.. is it hoped that this series will change the scale?
I think this is a great question. You had sporadic or inspirational characters, people you positively identified with in form, whether it was Bachchan Sahab in Zanjeer who was larger than life, a hero, whether it was people like my father who was so revered for his role in Tezaab. , who took revenge on the people, the system that destroyed the life of Muna, which is Anil Sir’s character. So you had them sporadically, but mostly you had corrupt or negative characters who were abusing and manipulating the system, or just ineffective and ineffectual because they always came after all the crime was done at the end of the climax.
Where did this picture change?
I think a whole new era has started with Singham and that’s why when I joke about Dr. Rohit Shetty, I say it because he so passionately brought it to a whole new generation with a sense of love, respect, admiration and heroism. Khaki for men.
