Prakhar SinghKnown for his versatile acting skills, he gained recognition for his role as a taxi driver in the unconventional Love Shop.year Family Aaj Kal which is currently streaming on Sony LIV. With experience in various mediums including theatre, television and now OTT, Prakhar represents a modern actor spanning diverse storytelling platforms. in an exclusive interview Zoom inHe shares insights into his journey, motivations and aspirations.
1. You played the role of a taxi driver. How was the experience?
It was a really great experience. As an actor, the most exciting thing is that you get to live different lives with all the characters, and playing a taxi driver was especially exciting. I was always interested in their lives. I myself have met many taxi drivers who have the most interesting stories and many of them drive taxis due to lack of opportunities, but their aspirations are extremely inspiring. It was a pleasure to play Gaurav and to see the audience outside his profession.
2. This is a very unconventional love story. What did you like most about it and what is it like to be a part of it?
This is a very unique love story! I am an indefatigable romantic and a sucker for romantic stories, and what interests me most about them is how love transcends all social norms and prejudices. In the past we have seen love stories like Raja Hindustan, Chalti Ka Naam Gad, etc., but Family Aaj Kal It has a different take on the burning issue of unemployment and that makes it very refreshing and relevant. It was a very satisfying experience. You can talk about important societal issues and also make the audience fall in love with the characters. What else does an actor need?
3. Do you remember any funny incidents during filming?
Every day on set was fun. We all tried together to create something so special that every day would be full of beautiful experiences. I am sure the audience will enjoy watching it!
4. How would you describe your chemistry with Apoorva both on and off screen?
Apoorva is a brilliant actor; He gives a lot to the stage and his co-stars. He is a thorough professional and a very nice person. It’s very easy to work with, so the chemistry was organic and that’s all that translated to the screen.
5. From TV to OTT, how do you see the transition?
I wouldn’t really call it a transition. Today is the best time to act because you are not limited to one medium. There is so much for everyone. I have dabbled in every possible medium one can act in, from theatre, television, digital, voice acting and now OTT. But the core of it all remains the same, which is acting. However, I must say that character arcs can be explored beautifully in OTT given the length of the stories, giving the cast a chance to dig deeper. The writing is quite sophisticated and the audience spends a lot of time building relationships with the characters. So it’s a win for the actor.
6. It is not an easy task when you want to become an actor, your journey started with theater and then you are working in TV and now in OTT. There have been many hardships for you. How did you overcome them and motivate yourself?
It all comes down to passion and understanding how the industry and business work. If you change your perspective and focus on improving your craft, learning and growing with each project, you will be able to overcome challenges. Obviously there are low phases, but that’s when most of your growth happens as well. I don’t see it as a hardship because I chose it because I love it so much and I was ready for what lay ahead.
There are a few things I’ve shot for in the last couple of years and I’m waiting for those projects to be announced so I can talk about them as well.
8. Any dream role you would like to play?
My dream is to play roles that surprise me! This put me in a difficult situation when I had to figure out how to bring the part to life. Oh, joy in such parts! Also, it should be understood that this is not an actor’s medium. You are only as good as the part you wrote and the director who brings it to life. I hope to play brilliantly written parts directed by some amazing directors.
9. If you could go on a date with a Bollywood actor, who would it be?
I don’t want to go on a date but I definitely want to work with brilliant actors like Shefali Shah, tabooand Tilotama Shome to name a few.
10. If you got the power of invisibility, which Bollywood celebrity’s house would you like to visit?
Unfortunately, he is not alive, but if I had this super power, I would love to go to Kishore Kumar’s house and see how he created all the magic he did.
11. Do you have any regrets and how do you see your journey so far?
I don’t regret it at all. I am a firm believer in the path of life. Everything you go through today will lead you to the tomorrow you want for yourself, and as long as you go through it with honesty and love, everything will be fine! I am very happy with my trip and I only hope for better tomorrow!
