The film, produced by Akhtar Farooqi and Jagjit Khurana, was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 100 crore, but did not perform well at the box office. In 2008, 28 years after the release of the 1980 film Karz, a remake was produced under the title Karzzz. Directed by Satish Kaushik, the film’s cast included Himesh Reshammiya. He made his Bollywood debut with this film along with Urmila Matondkar, Shweta Kumar, Danny Denzongpa and Gulshan Grover. Himesh Reshammiya also composed the music for the film. Produced by Bhushan Kumar and under the T-Series banner, the film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 240 crore, but failed to impress the audience and was a commercial failure. .
