Mimi Chakraborty to debut as a lawyer in a web series

Mimi Chakraborty has won the hearts of many with her famous creations. Hitting the limelight with the serial Gaaner Oparey and establishing a foot in films, he is now making his debut with the OTT thriller Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo, inspired by the Bappi Sen case. As the series launches today on Hoichoi, we catch up with her about the series where she plays lawyer Preeta Roy.

Who is Preeta Roy?

Preeta is a lawyer fighting the Bapi Sen abuse case that happened 20 years ago. The show is inspired by real events, but not based on the incident itself. Bapi’s story unfolds through the eyes of the main character, Preeta.

What made you think of this as your OTT debut script?

I believe that everything happens at the right time. I had been offered many beautiful female-centric dramas before, but I wasn’t sure about myself. I believe OTT puts a lot of responsibility on someone going into a private area where people can zoom in and see. We were on big screens and at most they can leave the hall. Here they can skip and you can see the analytics. So I wasn’t sure before, but now I think it’s the right time and the right scenario. I wanted to portray someone who is not Mimi Chakraborty, but a character.

Anything different you’ve picked up while working on an OTT platform?

OTT is very real today. Since the show we are doing is based on real incidents, we have to be on the road with the characters. I play a lawyer who is also struggling in his own life. A lot of research and homework went behind this role.

You played lawyer Kavya Sinha in Dhanajayi. How is Preeta different from him?

My first choice was not to repeat what Kavya Sinha did. When we read a storybook we can visualize the characters, I believe the same thing happens when you reread a script. I understand how the character’s graph develops. Then you have a director to guide you. with Chandrashish [Ray, director] We had regular phone calls to brainstorm characters, lines, lines, everything.

How has OTT helped regional actors cross borders?

NRI people now know where to find Bengali items. Many films that we have made earlier are now being watched by people and are getting positive feedback. They know where to find Bengali movies and content on OTT. They have reached people across borders and subscriptions are growing. Today I know where to find it Aranier Dean Rathry.

Something new on the music front…

My new rap song Bhalagchena Coming up in January after the web series launch, I have written the song and the music is by Taposhi from Bangladesh.

Jaha Bolibo Shoto Bolibo It runs from today.
