Top 10: Bollywood capitulates to southern filmmakers
“Animal” is a movie that continues to be a runaway hit at the box office, increasing its box office receipts by millions every day.
Amid worldwide collections, the film has already secured the 10th place in the list of all-time hits of Indian cinema and is still running after earning Rs 737 million in 11 days.
Turning to domestic box office records, the film broke the records set by Dangal, 2.0 and Baahubali: The Beginning, and secured the 7th position at the end of its 11th day of release.
All it has to collect from the domestic box office is another Rs 100 crore more than ‘Gadar-2’ and ‘Pathaan’. We’ll have to see when it approaches ‘jawan’.
So far, the top four box office titles in India are held by ‘Baahubali 2’, ‘KGF Chapter 2’, ‘RRR’ and ‘Jawan’. According to estimates, “Animal” could outperform “Jawan” in its entirety and cross the Rs 640-crore mark in the domestic zone.
Notably, seven films in this top 10 list are by South Indian directors. Of these, two are from the Telugu language of Rajamouli and Sandeep Reddy Vanga, two are from the Tamil language of Atri and Shankar, and one is from the Kannada language of Prashant Neel.
Needless to say, with just three films in the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time, Bollywood has bowed to South Indian filmmakers.
