‘The Arches’ stars Bollywood star kids Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda and Khushi Kapoor. This musical film is directed by Zoya Akhtar, who directed the blockbuster Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Let’s see how it goes.
Story:
“The Archies” is set in an Anglo-Indian town and stars Veronica Ronnie Lodge (Suhana Khan), Archibald Archie Andrews (Agastya Nanda), Betty Cooper (Khushi Kapoor), Reggie Mantle ( It is the story of a few friends named Vedant Raina), Dilton Doyley (Yuvraj). Menda), Jughead Jones (Mihir Ahuja), Ethel Mags (Aditi Saigal). They all love Green Park, the heart of the town. Ronnie Lodge’s father decided to cut down those trees and build a hotel. The subject of this film is how the children fought for the park.
Plus points:
“The Arches” is a musical movie, so the songs have to be good. Naturally, this film has a beautiful album. Every song is wonderfully composed and presented on screen. All the music directors who worked on this film did a great job.
Stunning visuals and great production design are additional benefits. The idea of setting the story in an Anglo-Indian town is a good one, as the film is based on the fictional American music band the Archies.
Star kids Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda and Khushi Kapoor gave decent performances in their debut films. Among the three, Agastya Nanda is more impressive. Although its screen time has been reduced, ‘Vedan Raina’ has left a definite impact. Mihir Ahuja, Aditi Saigal, Yuvraj Menda and others play their roles beautifully.
Minus points:
The main point this movie deals with in its second hour is the concept of being beaten to death. There are many movies that deal with the concept of saving nature, so the same should have been told in a more engaging way.
Most of the scenes are bland, but the soothing songs and great visuals make the viewing even better. After a certain point, The Archies becomes very predictable and it’s easy to understand where the movie is going.
I should have focused more on the emotional part. The ending is quite ordinary and trite. A musical movie like “The Arches” needs more clarity. The editing is disappointing and nearly 10-15 minutes could have easily been cut out.
Technical aspects:
Music directors Shankar Eshan Roy, Ankur Tewari, The Islanders, Aditi Saigal and Jim Satya have done a great job giving the retro feel. The cinematography by Nikos Andritsakis is captivating and captures the aesthetic of the scene. Production values are great. Editing is not satisfactory.
Zoya Akhtar’s magic is a bit lacking in The Archies and she only makes an impression in a few scenes. While the premise is promising, the execution is not. The story is simple for the most part. If you’re a fan of the director’s previous films, The Archies might leave you a little disappointed.
verdict:
Overall, The Archies is a decent musical film with decent performances from the star kids, Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda and Khushi Kapoor. Great songs and stunning visuals are the film’s biggest assets, but the story and narration could have been better. There were some good moments, but Zoya Akhtar is expected to do even better. So the movie ends up being just a so-so watch.
