Director Neeraj Pandey says action series alone won’t sustain a film unless it ‘clicks’ on an emotional level: ‘Then the violence will take over’ Bollywood News

What makes an action movie tick? What makes a movie memorable is the same thing – a relatable story, says filmmaker Neeraj Pandey. He believes that you cannot launch a big canvas project in the sky with the aim of impressing the audience.

Neeraj started his career with “A Wednesday” and went on to produce 2015 action-spy thriller “Special 26” and “Baby” starring Akshay Kumar. On OTT, the filmmaker directed the spy action thriller Special Ops and is currently seen as the showrunner for Disney Plus’ new Hotstar show Freelancer.

Considering the box office successes this year (Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, Animal) and Neeraj Pandey’s own OTT productions, viewers will mainly watch only well-mounted projects. A pattern emerges that suggests they may be interested in.

However, Neeraj disagreed and told Indianexpress.com: Something has to click at a very basic level in the story. That alone can’t sustain a movie or content…it has to hit home on an emotional level. Just having a lot of action pieces doesn’t make it fly. There must be something. Once you decipher it, you’ll understand its appeal. Then violence can take over and something else can take over. ”

Freelancer – The Conclusion stars Neeraj Pandey as the creator and writer, and the series is directed by Babu Dhulia, who also directed the acclaimed show Khakee: The Bihar Chapter . The show will feature Mohit Raina, Kashmira Pardeshi, Anupam Kher and others.

“The OTT landscape is exciting and the big differentiator is always the story. You have to choose the right story. The next thing is scale. You don’t choose scale first and then choose story. No, it doesn’t work like that. We’ve always been looking for great stories, whether it’s a movie or a series,” he added.

After making a relatively small debut with ‘A Wednesday’, Neeraj Pandey upped the ante with his next few appearances in ‘Special 26’, ‘Baby’ and the biopic ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’. increased. While thrillers continued to be his forte, the filmmaker continued to mix and match mountings for his films, never falling into the temptation to repeat the same pattern, even if the industry demanded of him.

“I have never succumbed to anything like that and I hope it never happens in this life,” the filmmaker concluded. “The Freelancer – The Conclusion” will be available from his December 15th.
