Hollywood seduces a singing plumber whose life story is made into a movie
A Hollywood film that details the story of a singing plumber from Leicestershire on his way to becoming a reality. The film tells the story of Quorn’s 51-year-old Kev Crane, who landed a life-changing record deal after he was caught using his amazing collection of pipes while fixing a client’s bathroom.
Kev’s passion for music began at an early age and he realized he had a talent at the age of 18 when he performed for his piano teacher. He also sang in bands in the early part of his life, but decided to give up singing at the age of 30 and later ventured into plumbing after losing his job in the 2008 financial crisis.
However, Cave said his passion for music was reignited during the coronavirus lockdown in 2020, when he was discovered by a record label producer. “I started writing again and turned the basement into a recording studio,” he said in an interview with LeicestershireLive.

“People started going back to work in June of the following year, and I got a call out of the blue from a woman who wanted me to offer her the cost of three bathrooms.”
Kev got the job and one day while he was working, he started singing on the radio, which caught the attention of his client’s neighbour, Paul Connelly, owner of New Reality Records in Loughborough. “I told him I had written an album and he wanted to listen to it,” he said.
“Two days later he came over and told me he liked my voice and wanted to release the album under his record label.”
Kevin’s breakthrough into the industry began to gain traction from local media, and a former journalist, Emma King, reached out wanting to tell his story. Emma took the story to BBC East Midlands today, which has drawn more attention to the 51-year-old’s newfound success.
“It was my first time watching TV, but after I did, I got a call from my best friend who told me I was trending on the BBC website. I checked myself and found out what he said was true, and then Times Radio and Channel 5 did And Hart Breakfast interviews me.
“We had TV crews around the house every weekday that week.”
Talks about a film about Kevin’s journey began in 2022, when American film producer and wife of Hunger Games and Terminator: Dark Fate writer Billy Ray approached her, explaining that she was interested in his story.
“I started wondering if Stacy’s Instagram account was real and when I went to look at her profile, I accidentally hit the video call button and she actually answered. I explained what had happened, she apologized, and we arranged to have a chat the next day.
“I brought the story back to her, and she asked me to sign a live-action rights agreement, so she signed the initial contract and soon after brought the writers on board, including her husband, Billy Ray. And the next minute, my wife, Karen, and I were writing together.”
“Once it was approved by Creative Artists Agency, I signed another contract, then went on to do interviews on This Morning, The Drew Barrymore Show on ITV and KTLA – one of the biggest breakfast shows in America.”
Cave told Leicestershire Live that the script was finally completed after a last-minute rewrite, and a search is now underway for actors and directors to be part of the project. According to Keef, it will be shown for the first time in cinemas, before arriving on streaming services.
Cave’s newfound fame propelled him into celebrity circles. He recently returned from an eventful trip to America, which included partying with Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos and visiting Kelsey Grammar at his home in Bel Air.
Cave said he plans to hang up his instruments next year and will focus his full attention on his music and touring. “It was unbelievable and even crazier to have this happen in two years,” Cave said.
“I can’t believe the script is all finished. I have ups and downs because one minute I’m doing all these interviews, and then the next minute I’m back at work.
“But in the end, I never thought I would be in this situation. I had given up my desire to be a singer but suddenly, I had this opportunity. You really never know where life can take you.”
