About writing for Aria

Sushmita Sen returns as Aarya Sareen in Aarya Season 3.

Anu reveals that she entered the writers’ room for the first season of Aarya. Although Grehan came out early, Anu started working on Aarya first.

When asked when he landed on Aarya – a project with big names, he said, “It was very intimidating. The first day I walked into the writers’ room, I thought, “These are three National Film Award winners, what am I doing here with these three men?” And, they were very strong and expressive voices. It was intimidating and took some time. They were very encouraging. I remember after three sessions, Ram Madhavan pulled me aside and said, “There is no one older or younger in this room. You have to respect that. There is a reason you are here, respect that and do what you do. It gave me perspective. “

He added: “I volunteered to try the pilot, even if they want to scrap it later, I just wanted to try. And I did. The encouragement that came to me was great, not that it didn’t rub off, but the process just boosted my confidence.”

Meeting with Sushmita Sen

Anu said that she avoids going to the shoots of her projects as she feels that her work ends when the film or show goes on floors. I went to the sets of Aarya 1 only twice. Apart from Muhurat, I don’t think I have been on the sets of any of my films.”

Anu also penned the dialogues for Aarya 3. Recalling the time he met Sushmita Sen, he said, “The first thing that strikes you is the warmth and respect she has for those around her. This gives a lot of confidence. He laughed and said “Mujhe is baaar aize wel dialogues die hain, ayes bhari bharkam dialogues die hain muje (give me such heavy dialogues this time)”. It was great to hear what he had to say and respect my words. ” The writer added that Sushmita also exudes curiosity and tenacity.

When asked why the third season of the show as a whole, as well as the dialogues, became too high quality, Anu said, “There are two things – the characters evolve over the seasons. Arya is much more in control in the third season and she doesn’t have that conflict or dilemma. He is the level he is. This dialogue or sense of clarity is something that comes very naturally. “

“It’s another matter how one-liners became popular from the first seasons onwards… Aarya was expected.” We had to continue with this essentially Aarya quality. Aryaism,” he added.

Writing alone versus a writers room

Talking about the experience of working in the writers’ room, Anu said that collaboration is not new, what she learned in the writers’ room was quite easy. He then explained, “Personally, I enjoyed being in the writer’s room. After the director, producer, and showrunner settle on an idea or source and decide on a rough outline of the narrative they want to create, the writers, showrunners, directors, and writers begin writer’s room sessions to decide on tracks, characters, potential conflicts, and just figure it out. How to add more meat to all of this. Everyone can understand the characters and tracks by talking a lot. This can take 3-6 months, depending on how quickly you get to the core narrative.

He added: “You have to fix it in the writer’s room like a puzzle… like a car engine. If one part doesn’t work well, it breaks. So Grehan was inspired by a 160-page novel that might give us five or six scenes. The original only had two characters – we added a whole world around them and also added a timeline (2016-17).

About working with Hansal Mehta on Scoop

Anu said that Hansal Mehta is a perfectionist. Unlike Ram Madhavan, Hansal’s scene construction is very intense, so every dialogue and visual metaphor you see on screen is done on purpose. It will all be on paper before it goes on screen.” He then went on to appreciate the Scoop team and how they all stood by him in times of trouble while writing the show.

Anu remembers being insulted on the street in Noida

Moved to Delhi in 1996 after realizing that she was always a rebel, i.e. witnessing things that led her to write her book Bhali Ladkiyan Buri Ladkiyan and also to create her first project – The Good Girl Show.

Asked if she sees any change in how safe women feel in public, Anu said: “I’d like to believe that a lot has changed, but it hasn’t.” He then proceeded to narrate an incident he had recently encountered. “I was in Noida, going to a nearby ATM at 8pm, when a man came on a bike and shouted at me like this. Then he took off! And, mind you, I was 35 and looked like someone who could give a good kiss, I didn’t look vulnerable. If he thought he could do this, how are my children and where are they safe? I came to Delhi in 1996, my daughter is about to go to college and nothing has changed in 20 years, things have only gotten worse. I was also angry and this was after all the outrage we saw after the Nirbhaya incident. “

Anu also recalled her school days and revealed, “I was 17 when I came to Delhi in 1996. It was rare for girls from my region to go out and study. It was quite a shock to people, but I was good academically and I was always more of a rebel.”

He added, “When I was young, I studied in a Hindi medium school while my younger brothers went to an English medium school. I stopped going to school for 15 days until I was admitted to an English medium school. So my family knew I always had a mind of my own. “
