Ship Captains: Directors appreciate the recognition
I am proud of my whole team:
Vicki Zahed
Vicky Zahed’s debut OTT Redrum saw her working again with Mehazabien Chowdhury as they put together a ‘whodunit’ story that kept the audience on their feet.
Redrum dominated the popular category at Blender’s Choice – The Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards 2022. The popular director won the Best Director award for his captivating project on Chorki. The web film won five awards, including Best Film at the coveted event.
Mehzabien and I wanted to start our OTT journey with something different. We thought Redrum had a great story to wow the audience. We really worked hard on this project and so when we finally got recognition for our efforts, it really did. We feel like our hard work has finally paid off,” said Vicky Zaheed. “The whole team including Afran Nisho, Salha Khanam Nadia and Manoj Pramanik have done a great job.”
This award started at the right time: Syed Shauki
Syed Ahmed Shoki won the best director award for the second time, this time for his landmark web series Karagar. Delighted with the victory, the director thanked the audience and critics.
“It’s incredible that for the second time the film syndicate has received the most nominations and also the most awards,” said the director.
The director also highlighted the new media, which has already shown its potential not only at the national but also at the international level. “The medium is still growing and it’s great that this award started its journey at the right time and this recognition will really help aspiring filmmakers to push forward and work even harder.”
Shawki shared that he has keenly noticed that young talents eagerly await such recognition. “Look, we don’t have any famous school for filmmaking, those who work in the technical side, study by their own efforts and interest. “When these young talents receive such an honor, they can proudly tell their family that they have done something commendable. .”
This award is inspirational: Mohammad Tuqeer Islam
Shaaticup won two awards in this edition of The Blender’s Choice – The Daily Star OTT and Digital Content Awards. Both the awards are from the critic category, one is the best director award by Mohammad Tuqeer Islam and the other one is in the form of best content which was picked up by the platform Chorki.
“The award is always inspiring and it increases the sense of responsibility in another way.” Looking back at the memory of working in the project, Tukir expressed sincere thanks to Platform Chorki. “Such stories should be told more because it represents the real picture of the locals.” Apart from the narrative itself, the artists are also natives of Rajshahi.
“From the initial communication to the screening, the journey with Chorki has been amazing and they have been very supportive,” shares the director.
Project Shaaticup explores a dark and intense tale set in the far reaches of Rajshahi dealing with drugs and the consequences of drug addiction in this crime drama.
How did your friends and family react to such a victory? “They were naturally very happy and excited to win.” Tuqir is working on another project focusing on the locations of Rajshahi, this time telling a different narrative. The project is in the post-production stage.
Nothing could make me happier.

Based on Bangla folklore, the horror series featured the likes of Chanchal Chowdhury, Afzal Hossain, Shohel Mondol and Pritom Hasan among others.
