Disney+ needs to do more than alternate Star Wars and Marvel shows

Disney has been feeling a little shaky in a lot of ways lately, but none is more bizarre than the philosophy behind Disney+.It’s often a must-have sub for parents with kids, but for a large streaming service that attracts an older audience, it’s at best single show It will be broadcast whenever viewers want to watch it.

It’s either a Star Wars show or a Marvel show.

Indeed, the pace is accelerating. In the past, there were only one or two cases a year. Nowadays, the rhythm has become such that they deliver so much content in quick succession that fans don’t have the courage to cancel their subscriptions. For example, there were exactly two days between the end of Ahsoka Season 1 and the start of Loki Season 2.

And yet it’s insane to me that Disney thinks this will continue indefinitely.flat At the inner Disney has admitted to spending a lot of money on an already disorganized and expensive show that ultimately resulted in Secret Invasion being a $200 million flop. Now, Kevin Feige is scaling back production and making more actual TV shows rather than miniseries in preparation for movies.

But that doesn’t solve the problem. The Star Wars and Marvel series of shows are still the same because Disney has nothing else to offer. They’re collecting IP in desperation, which is why we’re now getting things like a live-action Gargoyles (?) show.

Technically speaking, Hulu is the “adult” version of Disney Plus, but it’s much more expensive when bundled with it. Last week, Hulu’s price increased from $15 to $18 per month, and Disney Plus increased from $11 to $14 per month. There are a total of five bundles that package all of this, some of which include ESPN plus. Ad-supported versions of Disney Plus and Hulu currently cost $15 per month. Ad-free pricing is $20 per month.

It’s a strange system, and more than any other service, we’re about to go straight back to cable. And it’s really strange that one of these services always offers one Star Wars or Marvel show, while rivals like Apple and Max offer far more. . And despite its shortcomings, Netflix has a huge and ever-expanding content library. . You may be digging to find gold, but it’s there. And that’s much more often than Disney Plus.
