“About two and a half years ago, I realized that I was getting too caught up in my passions and not spending enough time on my relationships. I was upset and unhappy. If I had, I would have stayed away from the film. I felt angry and frustrated with myself,” Aamir said at News18 India’s ‘Amrit Ratna 2023’ event here.

Aamir revealed on the occasion of World Mental Health Day that he has been undergoing treatment for two years, saying it has been “quite a journey”.
“We can’t go back to when Junaid was five or Ayla was four. We need to figure out what we want to do with our time. I turned to mindfulness. I spent two years in therapy. I believe that we are not trained to do everything.
“When you’re stressed or have emotional problems, you should go to a therapist. My therapist has really helped me understand myself better. I want to be a better version of myself. I think so,” he said.
The actor said he is happy to be able to bridge the gap in his relationship with his children.
“To my children, I am like a friend. I am a kind father. We share a strong bond and speak openly… I have become more calm. My relationship with my children is better now,” he added.
Aamir said he is proud of the way his older children are progressing in their careers.
While Junaid is gearing up to move into the film industry as a producer and actor, Ira has been working on raising awareness about mental health ever since she revealed her own battle with depression and anxiety last year.
“I am happy to see the children doing well. They are facing their own challenges with dignity,” he added.
