(Wednesday Desk) – India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned comedian Kapil Sharma and actor Huma Qureshi in connection with the Mahadev gambling app case.

According to ED sources, the involvement of several other celebrities and certain sportspersons who promoted the app is also suspected.

Earlier, actor Ranbir Kapoor was also summoned by the ED in connection with the same incident.

The founders of Mahadev app were running 4-5 similar apps and all of them were making millions of rupees in profits daily.

In mid-September, the agency announced details of its investigation into an online money laundering case related to the Mahadev Online Book Betting app.

This is an umbrella syndicate that arranges an online platform that allows illegal gambling websites to register new users, create user IDs, and launder funds through a multilayered web of bank accounts.

The agency recently conducted searches at 39 locations in Raipur, Bhopal, Mumbai and Kolkata and seized illegal assets worth Rs 4.17 billion.

A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Raipur also issued non-bailable warrants against the suspects.

The ED, which is probing money laundering charges related to the Mahadev Online Book app, had last month conducted raids in Chhattisgarh and arrested the head of a gambling syndicate for organizing bribe payments to government officials. Four suspects, including the liaison officer, were arrested. As a “protection fee”.

The ED has announced that it has successfully identified other major companies involved in money laundering activities of online booking app Mahadev.
