When Salman Khan was casting for Main Pyar Kiya, he suggested his friend’s name to Sooraj Barjatiya.
Salman Khan made his debut with a lesser-known film called Biwi Ho To Aisi, but it was his first lead role. Sooraj Barjatya’s Main Pyar Kiya. The film was a huge hit and made Salman a movie star almost overnight. Well, in a recent chat, Sooraj had earlier revealed that; Saruman Even when the role of Prem was finalized, he kept shortlisting the names of his friends who were also aspiring to be actors for the film.
When asked about Salman’s casting in ‘Main Pyar Kiya’, Sooraj told Bollywood Bubble: So how could I say no when he was so good? But every time I went to tell him no, he started sending more and more people. (He said) “You don’t take me, you take him.” What other boy would say, “I’m not good enough, get another girl”?

In an earlier chat with Humans of Bombay, Sooraj revealed that he rejected Salman Khan’s first screen test but called up the actor again five months later.
Deepak Tijori had previously revealed that he was in competition with Salman for the role of Prem, but the Barjatya family decided to cast Salman because of his ‘looks’. “He (Sooraj Barjatya) called me and said we saw both the auditions, we love you both. -You choose Khan because the women in your family have always admired Salman’s looks more than you, but I think you’re both talented actors.But this is a love story. So, we need romance. It was completely justified,” he told Bollywood Hungama. Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee was also offered the role of Prem, but he turned it down.
‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ also became Bhagyashree’s debut song and one of the biggest hits of 1989.
