Dilip Joshi aka Jethalal Gada An old video interview of actor Dilip Joshi, who became a household name after playing Jethalal in the hit sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,’ talking about being “jobless” for a year has surfaced on the internet. In the video, Dilip Joshi “jethalal ka” says that he was offered a choice to essay the role of either Champaklal or Jethalal. However, he refused to play Champaklal citing he wouldn’t look the part.
“I was excited when Asit told me that he is making a show. I was asked to choose between the characters of Jethalal and Champaklal. Although the caricature of Jethalal was different too, lean with charlie mustache, Asit assured me that whatever character I choose, I will do good.”

Actor Dilip Joshi, who shot to fame for his role as Jethalal in the hit sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah‘, has had a long wait before he finally saw success coming his way.
Born into a Gujarati family, Dilip, who started his acting career in 1989, playing the character of Ramu in the film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, essayed several small roles in Hindi films and television serials, before he finally landed the part which saw him reach the heights of success.
Recently, a video interview of Dilip’s in which he is talking about being jobless for a year before getting onboard “TMKOC’ is going viral on the internet.
In the video, Dilip Joshi is heard saying he was offered a choice to essay the role of either Champaklal or Jethalal. However, he refused to play Champaklal citing he wouldn’t look the part. He then said that the producer, Asit Modi, expressed his confidence in him and he finally got on board as Jethalal for the sitcom which now has millions of fans across the globe.

And these were the days when acting was a social taboo. So from starting to sustaining, it was a battle. Acting is risky business. No matter how big you are, you are never secure.”
