The film stars Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho in the second part of the film
Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho are back in action with the first trailer for Disney’s sequel Moana 2.
David J. Derek Jr. wrote and directed the animated film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 27. The film focuses on Moana (Cravalho) as she embarks on an unexpected adventure in long-lost waters after receiving a phone call from her pioneering ancestors. Johnson reprises his role as the demigod Maui.
The project was originally developed as a television series before being recast as a theatrical sequel. Featuring new songs from Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Moana 2 Osnat Shurer is a producer, while Jennifer Lee is producing.
Disney is also behind a live event Moana A remake from director Thomas Kail. This film is set to star Johnson and is scheduled to be released on July 10, 2026.
the original Moana The film hit theaters in 2016 and has grossed more than $687 million worldwide, along with receiving two Academy Award nominations.
Johnson took the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month to help launch footage of it Moana 2. “Playing the character Maui is one of the most life-changing experiences of my life — and the roles that have changed my life,” Johnson said at the time.
The star also explained why the role was particularly special to him. “It’s my culture – you guys can see I wear it on my chest, my body, my tattoo, and the character Maui is also inspired by my grandfather, the paramount chief, Peter Maivia,” Johnson added. “It’s much deeper than just a movie for me, and I know it’s deeper for Disney, too.”
