“It’s a Bollywood movie to show Ruturaj’s slow batting. He and Dhoni are from the same cloth”: CSK coach Fleming | Cricket

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming believes there is no difference between the captaincy styles of MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni has been replaced as the opening batsman after the legendary cricketer decided to take over the captaincy of CSK before the start of IPL 2024. Things have been very good for Gaikwad so far this season as he has won three out of five matches as captain. . However, all three matches were played at CSK’s home ground, Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Whenever CSK participated in this IPL, Gaikwad’s captaincy was a bit questionable. However, Fleming believes that Dhoni and Gaikwad have been cut from the cloth. The former New Zealand captain feels that Dhoni’s calmness is also affecting Gaikwad.

“There’s no difference. He’s super cool. I know the last captain was cool. But this player is cut from the same cloth and it shows,” Fleming said in Mumbai. Asked by reporters whether he had discussed the difference between leadership and batting with Gaikwad, he said:

Gaikwad has also been criticized for his “slow” batting. The right-handed opening batsman has scored 155 runs in five games so far with a strike rate of 117.42. Fleming said it was “unfair” to put the 27-year-old in the throws slot.

“He’s a very impressive young man in terms of his game and what he needs to do. I think he’s been unfairly put in the bracket of being said to be slow. But when it comes to some of these stats… You have to understand the context,” Fleming added.

“We know this movie is like a Bollywood movie and sometimes they put these things on screen. But he’s fine. He’s playing in good condition. Last time. The match (CSK vs KKR) was a great example of how a leader plays and there is class in it. There is no doubt about Ruturaj.”

Mr Fleming made it clear that appointing Mr Ruturaj as captain was a long-term decision and not an ad hoc decision by the five-time champion. “I hope so. That’s the plan and it’s worked out well so far. It’s been a really smooth transition. He’s judged by wins, but we measure it differently. His leadership of the team. It’s top class, and I imagine it’ll last for many years, hopefully like the last captain,” Fleming added.

“Honestly, it’s amazing. It’s really amazing and that love…honestly, the love that India has for MS Dhoni and we are benefiting from that.” said Fleming.

“Teams definitely feel a sense of pride when they go to an away game and there’s a ton of yellow. Even if it’s not all yellow, in some cases it’s overwhelmingly yellow.”

“But we have no illusions about what created it or who created it. We are extremely proud of him and his involvement in the team. We’re really honored that people are coming out to support him, and if that’s secondary, we’re both very close. Yes,” Fleming added.
