Movie: Shaitan

U/A: Supernatural, Thriller
Rating: 2/5

In her home is a young girl from an upper-class Shaitan (Satan) family who looks perfect for her Facebook profile picture. A stranger, an equally strange man, enters their isolated farmhouse.

He takes over the girl’s brain and turns her into a sentient being, an obedient robot, completely controlled remotely by him. He gradually makes her do her strange things, putting her family in clear and imminent danger.

According to the movie, the Hindi word for this black magic is ‘Vashikaran’. I hurriedly typed it into my mobile phone and inevitably the auto-correct feature called Vashikaran entered the word as ‘Vashpikaran’.

That would mean evaporation, and the family in this movie would probably want that to happen as the unidentified nightmare unfolds before their eyes.

Now, here’s the problem. The tall, petite, young girl in this photo was not endowed with any special superhuman powers as a result.

Surely she can be tied up, tied up, tired or asleep? Also, will this strong man not be overwhelmed by this family consisting of a husband, wife and another child?

If you’re like me and you’re asking these questions inside the theater, of course you’re asking them in your head. Never yell with the people you are with. That’s a good sign. In other words, you are participating in the photo as a viewer.

Considering that every time I have a doubt, I get a fully reliable explanation after a few minutes. The same goes for that.

Shaitan stars Ajay Devgn in the lead role and is undoubtedly the biggest ticket breaker in the film lineup. This is a supernatural thriller. All such movies he combined into one genre and the last thing I remember is that Devgn probably killed it in this field. ram gopal varmaThe Boot (2003). Actor R. Madhavan plays opposite Devgn.

Given the cast, it would be fair to call Shaitan a ‘mid-budget’ film in business parlance. Something that many believe is no longer the realm of large-scale theatrical release.

Until a movie like Drishyam 2 (2022), also starring Devgn, storms the theaters and makes everyone redo their movie calculations! Both films generally have the same producers.

Shaitan centers around all teenage girls (janki bodhiwalas) who are under external mind control. The fact that she doesn’t exude her own personality at all should make her viewers feel even more pathetic and sympathetic towards her. She’s suitably sensitive, even if she’s shrieking.

tamil star actor Jyotikais playing the mother of a young girl in the upcoming wonderful Malayalam film Kaathal (2023). Devgan is her loving husband and her father. His profession is a Certified Public Accountant (CA).

To be fair, I can picture Madhavan as a CA in real life, let alone in movies. He was chosen to play the role of a dangerous, deranged, demonic villain. That’s a good choice.

Would you get goosebumps when Maddy goes crazy like Shaitan/Satan, clenching her teeth, growling under her breath? Yes, it only takes a minute or two. Ashutosh Rana, for example, has been appearing in our nightmares ever since Sangharsh (1999).

Are you under its control/curse like the teenage girl in this movie? Until the wise interval point. More or less, yes!

And if this were a tight 90-minute thriller set in a claustrophobic space from which neither the characters nor the audience could escape, it would have been that way throughout. Coun, why not think of it as the bedroom of Varma’s bungalow? (1999), co-starring Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Bajpayee.

‘Shaitaan’ is clearly a remake of director Krishnadev Yagnik’s acclaimed Gujarati film ‘Vash’ (2023). The film itself is somewhat inspired by Vikas Desai and Aruna Raje’s Hindi horror film Gehraeee (1980), according to people familiar with the matter. I haven’t seen either to compare.

Especially if either film similarly suffered from the demonic curse of the second half. In his final 25 minutes or so, this script switches to a completely different movie in feel, look, and plot wise.

The beauty of Drishyam 2, for example, is that the success of this horror thriller may explain the release of the suspense drama without ever falling into the anxiety of securing a wider theatrical audience. It is the consistency that allows us to continue on our path. .

Imagine Shaitan appearing as Kaun and visually switching to Kantara (2022). No, you don’t have to imagine. You can just take a look if you like!
