Maharani Season 3 Review: Huma Qureshi plots delicious revenge in gripping political drama
The SonyLIV drama series, created by Subhash Kapoor, returns with another exciting season with Rani Bharti at the helm.
About the third season of Maharani
of SonyLIV Maharani, set in 1990s Bihar, began as a story inspired by the state’s headlines. But over time, it evolved into its own as the characters in the drama created their own identity. The writing on the political thriller gets tighter every season as Huma Qureshi’s Rani Bharti establishes herself. This season, Rani has now learned how to play the political game and win.
The third season of Maharani: plot
After the events of season 2, Rani Bharti had to serve time in jail for murdering her husband, Behema Bharti (guest star Sohum Shah). With Amit Syal’s Naveen Kumar in power now, Rani is on the back foot. But what his political enemies don’t realize is that he spent three years in prison wisely, biding his time until he took revenge on all those who wronged him.
The third season unfolds slowly, but like a game of chess, the moves are dynamic and deadly for opponents on the other side. A few seeds of discord have been sown among those who flourished after Bheema Bharti’s death and the illegal liquor trade, which appears to be a B-plot but has the trump card of major political gains.
Maharani Season 3: Writing and Direction
Creator Subhash Kapoor along with Nandan Singh and Umashankar Singh add some intriguing twists to this new season. The theme of this third outing is the long game and revenge, with Qureshi’s Rani Bharti in charge of her future. Towards the latter half of the season there is a pleasant element of dobbing, which is carried out in a delightful manner. New director Saurabh Bhave adds a fresh perspective to the season as the suspense of betrayal and revenge mounts, leading to paranoia in several characters. The main political battles between the rival parties are also well underway.
Maharani Season 3: Performances
Qureshi’s Rani Bharti has become a wise, observant politician and is gaining a lot of confidence this season. Her character takes a bit of a beating from the ensemble cast, which includes Sial, Vineet Kumar, Pramod Pathak, Kani Kusruti, Anuja Sathe, Sushil Pandey and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. But in the moments that matter most, Qureshi’s ultimate revenge is far more deadly than all the games his rivals put him through. The actor also has a great scene with Sohum Shah that shows how much his character has grown over the seasons. Speaking of the ensemble cast, they all contribute to making the political confusion work.
