A dense topic like politics has always needed a longer format and thank goodness we now have a platform like OTT where length and complexity are never an issue. Created by Subhash Kapoor’s and directed by Saurabh Bhave’s Maharani Now entering its third season. A lot has happened in three seasons and three years. Rani Bharti, played by Huma Qureshi, plunges into the world of politics after her husband Behema (Sohum Shah) declares her as his heir. What followed were some unexpected events of deceit, apart from politics, and now it’s time for revenge.

The setting hits the right note and by now the characters are familiar, so their reactions are familiar too. And unlike many other political dramas, Maharani does not resort to shouting for higher influence. The chaos that surrounds the people in the show does a good job of conveying their conflicts and concerns.

What is the third season about?

Rani Bharti is behind bars and Naveen Kumar, played by Amit Syal, has risen to power. The state of Bihar is likely to become a bit more jaded as a game of revenge and violence is in store. It’s not just between two brains, it’s between brains. It also helps that Kapoor, as the creator, has breathed in the scent of the small town. Jolly LLB franchise and underrated Gudu Rangela. What’s more, it creates an ensemble that is easy to rely on.

Will the game ever end?

Think about it, suddenly a man appoints his wife as his heir. An outsider who is a total stranger in this dirty world, he feels lost at first before being transformed into a lady of steel with iron balls. And when her husband disappears and she’s blamed for it, she vows nothing but revenge. Politics is a field where controversies and blows hardly end. and why should The power game is no longer a chess game that ends on a cerebral note. Now there is a marathon where the race starts exactly where it ends. Which begs the question – if a fourth season is in the works, then what should we expect?
