Director Anurag Kashyap reviews ‘Raapata Ladies’: ‘After Manjumel Boys and Brahmayugam, Kiran Rao’s film was my day’
Film director Anurag Kashyap took to Instagram to praise Kiran Rao’s latest directorial film ‘Raapata Ladies’. Anurag described the film as “honest, funny and beautiful” in his heartfelt review.
In a post on his Instagram, Anurag expressed his admiration for Kiran’s ability to convey profound messages with sensitivity. Admitting that he was moved to tears after watching the film, he also brought his driver Narayan ji, who is from Bihar, to evoke nostalgia for his rural roots. The filmmaker praised Ravi Kishan for delivering the performance of his life along with fresh faces.
“What a sincere, funny, beautiful film Kiran Rao has made. “I cried like a baby. I cried like a baby. I was watching Narayan Ji, a driver from Bihar. I took him there and he was like “gaanv ki yaad a ghai”. The truth reflected in the eyes of the actors, who I had never seen before, gave them all a fresh look. Lifetime performance by Ravi Kishan, production design and cinematography and screenplay by Sneha Desai and team. It reminded me of the honesty, sensitivity and empathy of the Indian people I grew up with, which now seems to be gone. And that’s very interesting. And it’s as emotional as it is sincere,” he wrote.
Director Anurag expressed his satisfaction with the direction of Hindi cinema, citing similarities between ‘Raapata Ladies’ and recent acclaimed Malayalam films ‘Manjumel Boys’ and ‘Brahmayugam’. He praised Kiran for venturing into uncharted territory, like Varun Grover in AIR, and congratulated Indian cinema on a promising start to 2024.
“I have nothing but glowing things to say about this. Kudos to the filmmakers and team. I saw it in a packed venue and was lucky enough to book the best seat in the house in advance. .I was really happy. The boy who plays Deepak, Phool and Pushpa Rani, Daadi and Dubey ji, everyone got to my belly.Don’t miss this movie, it’s unforgettable .Music. Oh my day was so full after watching two great Malayalam movies back to back (The Boys of Manjung Meru and Brahmayugam) and why not in a Hindi movie? But then I found out that Kiran has actually gone and done it, like Varun Grover did with AIR.For me, it’s a great start to 2024 for Indian cinema. Thank you.” You can’t miss it. It is definitely a Nirmal film set in Nirmal Pradesh,” he concluded.
Starring Pratibha Ratna, Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastav and Ravi Kishan in an important role, ‘Raapata Ladies’ has grossed Rs 1.70 crore (gross worldwide box office) on Friday release. It was well received.
