Chris Pratt’s Garfield meets Dad

Garfield movie Monday – Garfield’s least favorite day – rings in with a new action-packed trailer.

While the first trailer shared the wholesome story of how Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) came into John’s (voiced by Nicholas Hoult) life, the latest preview addresses Garfield’s unexpected reunion with his biological father, Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson).

Garfield’s life at home with Jon and Odie is “pretty close to perfect” — that is, until he’s kidnapped by a giant pitbull and sent to Vic’s whereabouts. Vic enlists Garfield and Odie’s help, even though he hasn’t been there for his son since he was a kitten.

“I haven’t seen you in years, and when I do, you’re on the run from a deranged cat,” Garfield points out. But he eventually agrees to help Vic, on an adventure unlike anything the lasagna-loving cat has ever experienced. He jumps off moving trains, nearly plummeting to his death until he’s saved by a hunk of cheddar cheese and sets off to fight the bad guys.

This trailer also reveals a surprise voice-over: Snoop Dogg as Snoop Catt. Hannah Waddingham takes on the role of the villain who first appeared in the latest trailer, but no details about the character have been shared yet.

In addition to the aforementioned actors, Harvey Guillén provides sound effects for Odie, Garfield’s sidekick. Other voice actors in the film include Bowen Yang, Cecily Strong, Brett Goldstein, and Ving Rhames.

The film is produced by Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment, and directed by Mark Dindal (Cats don’t dance, The Emperor’s New Life) and written by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgov, and David Reynolds.

Garfield movie It hits theaters on May 24, 2024.
