Nirnayakam: Now revisit VK Prakash’s socially relevant film in Hindi with ‘Kaagaz 2’

Director VK Prakash, known for films like ‘Beautiful’, ‘Trivandrum Lodge’ and ‘Silence’, is back with the Hindi film ‘Kaagaz 2’. The film was originally scheduled to be directed by Bollywood director Satish Kaushik, who also starred Asif Ali, Tiska Chopra and Nedumudi Venu in the 2015 National Award-winning Malayalam film directed by Prakash. This is the official remake of ‘Nirnayakam’.

As Kaagaz 2 hits theaters on March 1, VK Prakash expressed his excitement about the Hindi remake. “Remaking this film in Hindi was the idea of ​​the late director Satish Kaushik. He was a member of the jury at the 2016 National Awards, where ‘Nirnayakam’ won the National Award for Best Social Film. served as the chief. Five years later, he called me and said he wanted to remake that movie because it was still stuck in his head. Soon he bought the rights of the film,” Prakash said. “His words meant more to me than any national award,” he added.

Initially, Satish was to direct the film, but Prakash was later asked to take over the direction from the veteran filmmaker and actor. Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Satish Kaushik play important roles in the film, which was mainly shot at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. “In Nirnayakam, Asif played an NDA cadet, so the film was shot mainly in Mysore, Kochi and Pune. It was special to revisit this film as I got to work with some of the best actors. I did,” Prakash said.

He added that they have made some changes to the film to suit the north Indian audience. Satish Kaushik reprises his role as Nedumudi Venu in the film, while Anupam Kher plays a cancer-fighting lawyer essayed by Prem Prakash. Darshan Kumar will reprise the role of Asif Ali. Prakash said it was Satish’s dream to tell socially relevant stories and name them “Kaagaz”, which means paper in Hindi. “His first film ‘Kaagaz’ revolved around a death certificate. ‘Kaagaz 2’ revolves around an old man’s fight against a government assembly.” He wanted to release more such films but unfortunately he is no more,” said Prakash.
