Martin McDonagh prepares to attend a masterclass at the Hong Kong Film Festival
Martin McDonagh is preparing to attend a masterclass and showcase his career at the 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF).
The British-Irish playwright, screenwriter, director and producer will discuss his career in theater and film and his sources of inspiration with an audience in Hong Kong. In a career spanning three decades, McDonagh has won an Academy Award, six BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globe Awards and three Olivier Awards.
After achieving success in theatre, with influential plays such as Miss Linan (1996), Inishman is paralyzed (1996), Skull in Connemara (1997) and The isolated West (1997), McDonagh achieved international success as a feature film director with a series of films noted for their wit, dark themes, and dark humor.
HKIFF will screen McDonagh’s 2004 Oscar-winning short film Six shooterin addition to his signature film, the crime drama starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson In Bruges (2008), which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and won a BAFTA in the same category.
The festival will also feature in 2012 The seven madmenThe crime comedy-drama starring Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson and Christopher Walken; 2017 Three billboards outside Ebbing, MissouriAnd Inchirin Panchayat, the Oscar-winning drama starring Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell; And 2022 Inchirin Panchayatwhich was nominated for nine Academy Awards.
HKIFF runs from March 28 to April 8. The festival will announce its full program later this month.
