The Malayalam film directed by Geo Baby has become one of the most celebrated films during the Covid era. The film revolved around how women are suffocated in marriage and are often tied down to housework for which they are grateful. Sajayani played the role of a woman who begins to resist her oppression and learns to seek freedom.
“This (film) has brought more opportunities from the north. Earlier my work was limited to the southern audience, but now it has spread to the northern state as well,” Sajayani told PTI in an interview.
The 27-year-old actor, who will be seen playing a forest officer in Richie Mehta’s premier video series Poacher, has been praised by executive producer Alia Bhatt for her performance in the series.
Sajayani’s other notable roles include films such as Oru Kuprasidha Payan, Chola, Nayathu, Malik and Cheetah.
Based on true events, the multilingual series unravels the illegal ivory trade in India through the eyes of forest officials and wildlife warriors. To get into the skin of the character, Sajayani said he met a forest officer from Kerala to understand his character.
“I met him (the official) and talked to him for two hours. It’s impossible to get to know a person in two hours, so I just asked about his relationship with colleagues and his family. I asked him how are you. Do you feel when you will hear about poaching cases?’ He said, “Nimisha, imagine there is something that is close to your heart, in your home, and your home has been robbed and taken away. How would you feel?”
“So his answer made me think about who the character is and how emotionally committed he is to the jungle. I think that was my preparation. Just one question and I got the character,” he added.
Along with Sajayani, Poacher will also see Roshan Mathew and Debendu Bhattacharya in prominent roles. The premiere of the series is scheduled for February 23.
