Sunil Grover says his ‘Sunflower’ series has pioneered a new genre of thriller: “It’s one of the . . .”
The second season of Sunil Grover’s much awaited Sunflower released recently and it has received positive reviews. Building on the huge success and excitement generated by the first season, which also featured Adah Sharma, Ashish Vidyarthi, Ranveer Shorey, Mukul Chadha and Girish Kulkarni, the second season took the quirky plot forward. Recently, Sunil Grover spoke candidly about Sunflower’s USP.
The actor shared, “It’s the writer, director and creator that made this show special. Credit goes to Vikas Bahl, Naveen (our director), Chaital and many others associated with the great cast and crew of the show. I think that Messumzira has mastered a new genre of thriller with his writing. The series teases people all over and keeps them engaged with its thrilling and exciting storyline. It’s a beautifully written show.”
When asked how his show compares to other crime thrillers, he said, “I haven’t seen many crime thrillers, but I think this genre is being explored for the first time in India. Since I don’t watch other shows, there is no comparison in my head. It’s a standout show for me.’
Discussing more about the second season, Sunil Grover added, “People want a lot of answers from S2. In S1, the characters were being developed and now the audience knows the characters very well. While this season introduces several new characters, the show will move quickly and many of the questions that audiences have been waiting to be answered will be addressed this season as the series progresses.”
The actor also revealed whether he improvises with his characters, “Whenever there is room, I suggest to the director. So if they like it, they keep it and if they don’t, they say no,” he shared.
The News18 Showsha review of Sunflower says, “Ultimately, Vikas Bahl’s Sunflower Season 2 is a bland recipe that could have used more salt, especially when the first season felt like a 7-course meal with an interesting premise and quirky characters. That said, the new season isn’t bad at all, and it’s certainly full of moments throughout the eight episodes that will keep you entertained and invested. But overall it couldn’t match the brilliance of the first season. All eyes are now on Season 3 as the series ends on a cliffhanger.”
