During a conversation with the British Film Institute on Thursday. Nolan said Making a straight horror picture was something he would eventually like to tackle – and he explained specifically why the genre appealed to him.
“I think horror films are very interesting because they rely on very cinematic devices,” he said. “It’s really about[evoking]a visceral response to things. So, at some point, I would love to make a horror film. But I think a really good horror film requires a really exceptional idea, and those ideas are few and far between. So I haven’t found the story that fits that.” But I think it’s a very interesting genre from a cinematic standpoint. It’s also one of the few genres in which studios are making a lot of these films, films that have a lot of melancholy and a lot of abstraction. They have a lot of qualities that Hollywood generally resists using in Movies, but this type is allowed.
Nolan also noted that there are moments of horror OppenheimerEspecially after the Manhattan Project team succeeded in creating the first atomic weapon.

The reason I settled on these two genres in those sections is because they are dominant genres where dialogue and people talking are inherently tense and interesting to the audience. That’s the fun thing about genre – you can play in so many different areas whereas in different types of films you wouldn’t really be allowed to.”
Nolan’s blockbuster historical drama Oppenheimer It has grossed nearly $1 billion at the domestic box office, and is currently nominated for 13 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
