Emraan Hashmi says ‘money was spent in wrong areas’ in Bollywood, praises South filmmakers: ‘The way they do it…’
Emraan Hashmi, who played the antagonist in ‘Tiger 3’ starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, is all set to don his villainous avatar again in filmmaker Sujeeth’s upcoming directorial ‘OG’. Director Emraan recently spoke about the differences between Bollywood and the South Indian film industry.
In an interview with Times of India, he said, “I never imagined that I would enter the southern film industry. But it was a great script and a great character. I am making this film on a canvas that is unique to me.”
“We have a lot to learn from the way southern films are made…I think southern filmmakers are much more disciplined than us (in Hindi films). All the money they spend on films goes to the screen. I think that in Hindi films we often spend money in the wrong areas and it ultimately doesn’t translate on screen. “We have a lot of ground to cover and a lot to learn from the way they make films before we can match that,” Emraan added.
But Emraan doesn’t want to be pigeonholed as a villain. “I think it’s dangerous to find your groove, because you can also get stuck in a box. I hated the fact that I was forced into a certain role for almost 15 years. . I wasn’t growing as an actor, so there was a deliberate effort to break out of that box and try something different. I was sleepwalking on every set. In fact, that’s a big trap. Many Western actors would probably run away from playing a character like Bond, too. “Because you gradually get stuck in a box. People say that if you step out of it, people won’t be able to see you as anything else, so it will have a negative impact on your career,” he said.
Emraan is currently working on the Telugu film ‘OG’. The film is scheduled to be released on September 27th this year.
