Apple to release Lily Gladstone’s film ‘Deluxe Dancing’ – The Hollywood Reporter
Apple has acquired the global rights to Fantasy danceheadlines the 2023 Sundance Film Festival starring Lily Gladstone, who recently received an Oscar nomination for Apple. Moonflower Killers.
Erica Tremblay, who worked on the FX series Reservation dogs As a writer and director, she makes her film debut and also co-wrote and produced it. News of the pickup comes more than a year after the film bowed at Park City and subsequent festivals. In November, Tremblay co-wrote a guest column for THR With co-writer Michiana Ales talks about the film’s struggles for distribution.
“With a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and all the accolades we have received, we are mystified by the disconnect between our apparent success and the industry-backed distribution push,” the column read. “Our film premiered the same year as Martin Scorsese’s film Moonflower Killers. Both films, starring Lily Gladstone, are set in Oklahoma and deal with themes surrounding settler violence against indigenous people. As first-time independent filmmakers, we never imagined this Fantasy dance It will have the same kind of industry support as Mr. Scorsese’s juggernaut, but the disparity is so great that it renders our film almost invisible and leaves only one perspective available: the non-original one.
Fantasy dance It follows Jax (Gladstone) as she takes care of her niece, Rocky (Isabelle Deroy Olson), after her sister disappears. In danger of losing custody to Jax’s father, Frank (Shea Whigham), Jax and Rocky hit the road and search the outback to track down Rocky’s mother in time for the events Rocky has been preparing for.
Apple will release the film in theaters and later this year.
Confluential Films and Significant Productions/AUM Group are on the back burner Fantasy dance, produced by Deidre Bax, Tremblay, Heather Rae, Nina Yang Bongiovi, and Tommy Oliver. Gladstone, Bird Running Water, Charlotte Koh, and Forest Whitaker served as executive producers.
The deal was brokered by WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers.
