Farnaz Shetty opens up about the web series VideoCam Scam
Mumbai: Actress Farnaz Shetty is on cloud nine! His debut web series VideoCam Scam was released recently and was well received by his fans. He says people want to know more about the subject it’s based on – sextortion.
“If I’m talking about cam scams, that’s the last topic that everybody’s struggling with and people aren’t open about it about sextortion. It used to be extortion, now it’s extortion because it’s readily available and it’s a breach of trust. People sometimes, between couples, sometimes it happens to any random person. People have rackets where they do such scams to threaten innocent people. So we focused on all aspects of the topic,” he says.
Although it didn’t touch the character, it added to the fun of playing him on screen, he says. “The reason I chose to do this is because I honestly felt that this character was nowhere near me. When I heard about this topic I was like “Aisa bhi kuch hota hai?” No one in my circle of friends has talked about this topic. So it was really new for me. I never knew something like sextortion was happening and people were being victimized so brutally. And in my real life, I can’t really be a cheater. But on screen, if I get a chance like that, it’s fun to do it. Playing negative roles is always fun because they have so many layers and nuances. So I felt that this is what I want to do and it just caught my attention,” he says.
Talking about her character, she says, “My character’s name is Sweety. I live with my two friends. One is Sonu and Titu. So these three of them live in disguise. They want an easy life. They are unsuccessful. dropping out of college. A stupid idea comes into their head and it gives them a kick when they can earn money without going anywhere, without doing anything and so they start scamming people and choosing an easy life for them.
He says this series is very different from anything else out there on OTT. “The first is that sextortion has never been covered before. This is a very deep and recent thread where actors Rashmika Mandana and Alia Bhatt and all these actors have fallen into Deepfake, but we have done our project before that. So this is the last topic that everyone is very afraid of, but people don’t come in and talk about it openly. Even real victims and real people who didn’t do it and still fall victim to these scammers and that’s why the thread is there. It’s a very sensitive subject and I’m really happy to be associated with something like this that will get a lot of exposure from the audience and I’ve learned a lot from it myself,” he says.
Ask him how it was working with actors Rajneesh Duggal, Amruta Khanvilkar and Aradhana Sharma and he says, “I had an incredible working relationship with producer Pawan Malu, director Vaibhav Kishti, DOP Amey, actors Rajneesh Duggal, Amruta Khanvilkar, Kunj. Anand, Aradhana Sharma, it was all amazing. We worked like a family. The bond we share on and off screen is incredible. In fact, off-screen the producers and everyone made us feel so comfortable that we never felt like we were only associated with this project. The connection was and is very thick. They gave us all the comfort that comes on the screen when you see us perform and it was a great experience to share the screen with everyone.”
