Sunny Wayne on ‘Perilloor Premier League’: I have only one question for those watching this: “Did you laugh?” |
After receiving positive responses from the audience, the actor sunny Wayne, who portrayed Srikuttan in the series, sat down with ETimes for a candid chat. He shared his experience of life in ‘Perilloor’, a fictional village created by writer Deepu.
“The team gave me a line that Sreekuttan is an innocent boy from Perilloor who is desperate to get married. He is not a funny guy but even his serious conversation with his friends will make you laugh. Without any second thought, I said yes to the serial. I really wanted to try humor because I have done a lot of dark humor and thrillers. I wanted to play a character that would appeal to the family audience and here it is. Everyone is still recovering from the pandemic. So we all want to laugh. The series invites you to Perilloor, a land of unique people; you have to become one of them One of them and just enjoy it,” Sunny said.
“Apart from the humorous characters that have captivated the audience in the series, the serene beauty of Perilore has also captivated the audience. Sunny proudly reveals that it was shot in his hometown, Wayanad.”
“To be honest, I had never really experienced the mystical beauty of my hometown before. While we saw some beautiful places in the village, the panoramic view was truly mesmerizing. The filming took place in March-April. Optimal time in Wayanad. Places like Ambukutty Malla, Kavala, Panchayat office, temple, paddy field – I got calls from some of my friends abroad expressing nostalgia after watching the serial,” added the actor.
Discussing his second favorite character in the series after Sreekuttan, Sunny immediately pointed to Keman Soman, played by Ashokan.
“I can’t believe anyone can portray this character to such perfection. The character never lets failure affect him, but says, ‘We’ll see you next election,'” shared Sunny.
The scene that captivated the viewers of the serial is the Aanukaanal (groom viewing ceremony) which was the opposite of the usual tradition. Speaking on stage, Sunny shared that she was hesitant to do so.
“Aanu Kaanal is not what we are known for. So it was exciting to do something on screen for the first time. At the same time, I was very shy at first. Moreover, the series conveyed a very strong message of gender equality. To the audience wrapped in humor,” he added.
Despite the growing popularity of Malayalam web series and OTT special shows, Sunny suggests that it is too early to comment on the future of the platform.
“We will probably have to wait a few more years to comment on the future of the OTT platform. Of course, this is the beginning of a new era, but it is only the beginning. There is a web series and a movie for the artist. Almost the same, the creators, especially the writer, differentiate it,” he concluded.
