The much-awaited Bollywood action thriller ‘The Fighter’ was scheduled to be released in the UAE on Saturday, January 27th. But currently, residents are unable to check movie showtimes or book tickets.
Indian media had previously reported that the Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer would be banned in Gulf countries, except the UAE, where it will be screened with a PG-15 rating.
However, VOX and Reel Cinemas customer care agents confirmed the following: Khaleej Times The film has been banned by authorities in the United Arab Emirates.
“The film has been stopped from screening by the Dubai authorities and a red flag has been raised in all theaters. We have no further information at this time,” a Reel Cinemas customer care representative said by phone.
Home Screen Entertainment, the film’s distributor in the United Arab Emirates, also addressed the cancellation of the Bollywood film on social media.

“Fighter” is a war-themed movie that revolves around members of the Indian Air Force. The film depicts the lives of Shamsher Pathania (Hrithik Roshan) and Minal Rathore (Deepika Padukone) as they navigate India’s national security situation.
Warda Sherwani, a 19-year-old Pakistani living in Dubai, said: “I don’t see why we should push for more wars when there are so many wars going on right now.”
Ehab Qadir, an Indian videographer based in Dubai, said he understands why the film is controversial in some countries. He said: “I feel that freedom of expression and art should be used to unite people.”
The film has been banned in GCC countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
Ahmad Al Marzooqi, a UAE-based Bollywood film critic and aficionado, said: Khaleej Times “In fact, I am with the censors after what is happening in Palestine. ”
He added, “I’m glad that the Arab audience joined me and opposed this film.”
This is not the first time that a film has been canceled or postponed in the UAE.
